Medical devices cluster coming up in Hyderabad

Andhra Pradesh will set up MedTech Valley, a world-class cluster for manufacturing medical devices and equipment near Genome Valley at Shameerpet in Hyderabad.

The state government will provide 1,200 acres for the project. In the first phase, 200 acres are being developed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority. The project will be executed by a public-private partnership model and will get assistance from the Centre for infrastructure development.

Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narsimhan today unveiled the logo of the MedTech Valley project during the valedictory of BioAsia 2010 in the city.

“Andhra Pradesh is a safe place with a vast pool of manpower, experts and technicians. I want to set at rest any apprehensions about the security situation in the state,” he said. The governor presented the Federation of Asian Biotech Associations special awards to Johnson and Johnson Corporate Vice-President (Worldwide Operations) Ajit Shetty and BioCat (Catalonia) President Manel Balcells.

The BioAsia 2011 will be held from February 21 to 24 next year.
